Just heard about the public hearing the Riley Township Board is holding in January, the reason for the meeting is for comments regarding changes to the zoning of the River Conservation District. After checking it out, it comes down to this, the Planning Commission made some changes to the River Conservation District by removing a few parcels and adding a few other parcels, to make corrections they felt needed to be made. They gave these changes to the Township Board, who disagreed on should be done. Two Board members wanted to approve the Planning Commission's recommendations and one wants to change it to only run along with the river and 500 ft. from it.
Wow, this sure takes alot of land out of the River Conservation District and it will create multiple zoning districts on all those properties changed, as I'm told. The river is a major natural resource to the area, why on earth would anyone want to do anything to harm it.
I'll let you know more soon, as soon as I make some more calls.

I don't understand why anyone would want to limit the protection to the river. What about the wildlife? The wetlands? Preservation as a natural resource?

I heard that the supervisor, (David Rushing), had more of his property put in the river conservation district that was recommended by planning commision. If that is true, he probably got on the phone and called his two partners in crime (Al Titus & Linda Hazelton) and said "let's change this". If you don't attend the meetings you really don't know how far Al Titus has his head up Dave Rushing's a**. As far as Linda Hazelton is concerned, she is only on the township board for personal reasons and to do what her husband tell's her to do. If you don't believe me, go to the meetings and see for yourself!!!

It is the Supervisor, Dave Rushing, Linda Hazelton and Al Titus that do not want to accept the Planning Commission changes. If the supervisor appoints the members to the Planning Commission with the rest of the boards approval, why wouldn't they listen to what the Planning commisssion offers? This is the reason for delegation. One person (Supervisor) cannot be the expert in all things!
